The Beautiful Places of Bukidnon (The Climbing Capital of Philippines)

Bukidnon occupies the plateau of the island showcasing the best of the best natural and land destinations of the country. Known for its large agriculture, the province is actually visited for its stunning views and captivating landscape like no other. After my adventure, I can say that Bukidnon is truly an amazing adventure destination. It may be a shoreless area, but it surely has an astounding expanse of hills and mountain ranges that you can’t see anywhere else. It is an ideal place for trail hikers and mountain climbers thrilled for all sorts of mountaineering opportunities, regardless of the climb is easy or challenging.

Here are some of Bukidnon’s majestic mountains:

1. Mount Dulang-dulang, dubbed by Filipino mountaineers as "D2", is the highest elevation peak in the Kitanglad Mountain Range, located in the north central portion of the province of Bukidnon in the island of Mindanao. It is the second highest mountain of the Philippines at 2,941 metres (9,649 ft) above sea level, second only to Mount Apo of Davao at 2,956 m (9,698 ft) and slightly higher than Mount Pulag of Luzon, the third highest at 2,922 m (9,587 ft). The mountain is regarded by the Talaandig tribe of Lantapan as a sacred place. It is also within the ancestral domain of the tribe

2. Mount Kitanglad is an inactive volcano located in the Kitanglad Mountain Range in Bukidnon province on Mindanao island. It is the fourth highest mountain in the Philippines and has an approximate height of 2,899 meters Amazingly, there are bunkhouses with electricity at the summit, for it is a communications center. Since people actually work at the summit, the trails going up are well-established. Still, the trails are challenging, the views beautiful, and experience unique. There are steel stairs that will assist you in ascending the very steep trails, and at the top, so many mountains and places in Northern and Central Mindanao is visible.

3. Mount Maagnaw is a mountain in the Philippines, with an elevation of 2742 meters (8996 ft) and a prominence of 331 meters (1086 ft) in the Philippines. It is the third highest peak of Kitanglad Range and the 8th highest mountain in the Philippines and is a part of the ancestral domain of the Talaandig tribe. Mt. Maagnaw features mossy forest, with different species, tribal domain and exploratory trails. It is a major climb with trail class 3-5 and required 3-4 days to summit but depends on the pace.

6. Mt. Capistrano, located at Sitio Simaya, is part of Malaybalay City. This mountain is famous in social media. People get curious about the photogenic rocky mountain which is a trending destination for most people around Bukidnon

7. Kapayawan Ridge is one of the many accessible but challenging trekking locations located at Impasug-ong, Bukidnon, around 3 hours away from Cagayan de Oro City. It boasts an amazing 180° view of Bukidnon’s majestic mountain ranges, picture-worthy landscape, and designated camping spots that will definitely make the tough trek worth every step.

8. Panimahawa Ridge or some called it Paminahawa Ridge, perhaps because Paminahawa is the name that has been registered in google map if you’re straining to find it. And on a local tongue, they generally called it Panimahawa Ridge. It is, in reality, part of the mountain range located in Brgy. Impalutao, Impasug-ong, Bukidnon where you get to enjoy the amazing and breathtaking view of the different ridges of nearby mountains. Moreover, Panimahawa Ridge has an elevation of 819 Meters Above Sea Level (MASL), or around 2,687 feet. This has become the favorite and famous hiking destination of many trekkers after fanning its name on Social Media recently. Believe me or not, because of the pictures and videos of Panimahawa ridge that has been circulating in Social Media, a few local celebrities in the Philippines have been to Panimahawa Ridge. In fact, a day before my trek to Panimahawa Ridge, Angel Locsin was doing a day hike to this ridge. Unluckily, her schedule and my schedule didn’t meet halfway.

How to get there?

Similar to traveling by air, the closest you can get to Bukidnon is through Cagayan De Oro City. The Port of Cagayan is the closest seaport to the province. From there, you can travel by land to reach the cities and municipalities of Bukidnon.
